Join illustrators John Rocco, John Bemelmans Marciano, Dan Yaccarino, and Sophie Blackall for our 4th Annual Kids Holiday Party! This year's is sure to be more action-packed than ever, as we transform the Arena into a children's book-filled winter wonderland. An interesting conversation on picture books on North Carolina Public Radio, in which, among other things, they talk about the book Franklin's Big Dreams, illustrated by our own Boris Kulikov.

Collective Back Patting

Three Book Makers Dozen picture books have made it to Best Book of the Year Lists.
Brian Floca's Ballet for Martha is one of Publisher's Weekly's Best Children's Books, and Peter Brown's Children Make Terrible Pets and Sophie Blackall's Big Red Lollipop are included in The New York Times Ten Best Illustrated Children's Books of 2010. Peter is not the sort of person to point out that his book was number two while Sophie's was number six. Sophie will presume to speak for all three when she says she is pleased and honored to be on such a list. For the next 48 hours she will suspend her "no high five" rule.

Picture Book Lists at sergioruzzier.blogspot.com

I'd like to invite anyone who loves picture books to send me a list with ten of their favorite picture books, for kids or not. The books can be from any time and any country. I'd like to keep the definition of picture book as wide as possible. For example, one of my books will probably be William Steig's The Agony in the Kindergarten, which was a collection of one-liners illustrated in black&white, about but not exactly for kids.
You can be an author, an illustrator, an editor, an art director, a bookseller, a librarian, an agent, or anyone who has a passion for picture books.
Please send me your list with, if you want, a mini-bio, a picture of you, and a link that I can add to the post. And any comment on the books you choose. Send to sergio(at)ruzzier(dot)com

Thank you!

P.S.: this of course doesn't want to compete with Betsy Bird's amazing Top 100 Picture Book Poll.
