You WILL Like This Book!

Lucille Beatrice Bear is back in a new picture book called YOU WILL BE MY FRIEND! And this time...it's personal.

Making friends is harder than Lucy expects. She accidentally ruins the giraffe's breakfast, the skunk does not want her help, and she's too big for the frog's pond. It looks hopeless. And then, when she least expects it, a funny thing happens...you'll never guess what
it is.

Peter Brown is touring the US of A with YWBMF, click HERE to check out his complete book tour schedule. You should totally stop by one of his events.

Congratulations, Sergio!

Congratulations to Sergio Ruzzier for his selection as one of this year’s Sendak Fellows! From what I can gather this is the second year of Sendak Fellowships. Apparently they involve a month in Connecticut with the Man himself and three other lucky fellow fellows. If that’s not exactly what the fellowship is, I hope Sergio will correct me. Anyway, I think it’s close, and it sounds, obviously, fantastic. The honor and opportunity couldn’t go to a more deserving artist. I expect he’ll make great use of it. Let’s just hope he remembers his old friends here in Brooklyn. We will be expecting postcards, Sergio.

Above: Tweak Tweak, Sergio’s next book, with text by Eve Bunting, coming in May.

E.B. White Read-Aloud winners

The American Booksellers Association recently announced the winners of the 2011 E.B. White Read-Aloud Awards. In the picture book category, the winner was Children Make Terrible Pets, by our own Peter Brown — whose The Curious Garden was the winner last year. (Can the Peter Brown Award be far behind?) Among the Honor Books in the Picture Book category is Bedtime for Bear, by Brett Helquist. Details about the award are here. You can read more about Peter at his web site, here, and Brett at his web site, here. Congratulations to them both!

Irma Black Award

Hey you guys!

I'm so excited that my book CHILDREN MAKE TERRIBLE PETS is a finalist for the Irma Black Award for Excellence in Children's Literature! Woohoo!

Voting is open to all 1st and 2nd graders, but votes must be submitted by teachers and librarians. So...please spread the word to any young parents, teachers and librarians you know! This is such a great way to promote literacy, I hope everyone will participate. Of course, I'll be happy if kids end up voting for my book, but I'm a HUGE fan of children's choice awards like this, so my main goal is to increase participation. Seriously!

Here's the link for voting: http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/slj/articlereview/889455-451/story.csp

Thanks for your support!

Your pal,
Peter Brown
