Sophie Blackall's The Crows of Pearblossom and John Rocco's Blackout both made the Wall Street Journal's Best Books of 2011 list. We are thrilled to be among this great selection of books for children.
Congratulations to Sergio Ruzzier for his selection as one of this year’s Sendak Fellows! From what I can gather this is the second year of Sendak Fellowships. Apparently they involve a month in Connecticut with the Man himself and three other lucky fellow fellows. If that’s not exactly what the fellowship is, I hope Sergio will correct me. Anyway, I think it’s close, and it sounds, obviously, fantastic. The honor and opportunity couldn’t go to a more deserving artist. I expect he’ll make great use of it. Let’s just hope he remembers his old friends here in Brooklyn. We will be expecting postcards, Sergio.
Above: Tweak Tweak, Sergio’s next book, with text by Eve Bunting, coming in May.
The American Booksellers Association recently announced the winners of the 2011 E.B. White Read-Aloud Awards. In the picture book category, the winner was Children Make Terrible Pets, by our own Peter Brown — whose The Curious Garden was the winner last year. (Can the Peter Brown Award be far behind?) Among the Honor Books in the Picture Book category is Bedtime for Bear, by Brett Helquist. Details about the award are here. You can read more about Peter at his web site, here, and Brett at his web site, here. Congratulations to them both!
I will be giving a presentation about my new book ALL THE WAY TO AMERICA: THE STORY OF A BIG ITALIAN FAMILY AND A LITTLE SHOVEL at the prestigious Eric Carle Museum this Saturday April 9 at 1PM. Hope you can make it!
